The direct vent gas insert also has a surround to cover the rest of the fireplace hole. Direct Vent Gas Inserts have oxygen come from outside instead of from the room like vent free gas inserts. Direct Vent Gas Inserts send the exhaust from the combustion of the fire up the flue. Direct Vent Gas Inserts also have a blower option. Direct Vent Gas Inserts do provide heat. There are much more decorative options for fire media, decorative fronts and interior firebox panels than vent free gas inserts.
